Lisbon’s own Éme, one of the founders of Cafetra Records, has a new album out
In this prolific stage of his career, Éme debuts a band in which he (guitar and vocals) and Moxila (cavaquinho, flute, vocals) are joined by Francisca Aires Mateus (violin, organ, and vocals), Carol Rodrigues (bass and vocals), and Kellzo (drums). Produced in 2025 by Éme and Moxila and co-produced by João Oliveira, who also recorded it with Kellzo’s help, Colegas de Trabalho is a Cafetra release.

“The folk played in Colegas de Trabalho is not American, nor is it Portuguese. It is pure Éme, sharper then ever. Even though Bonnie “Prince” Billy (hearing some violins), Silver Jews (mostly in the almost spoken vocals) or Sufjan Stevens (lurking in the last song) comes to mind, the record isn’t a cheap copy of any of their music. We recognize Éme, older, focusing on storytelling, in all his peculiarities, flaws, charisma and sense of humour.“

Colegas de Trabalho follows Disco Tinto (2024) and Éme e Moxila (2022), two records that were critically acclaimed and treasured by audiences. It’s also the rightful sucessor to Domingo à Tarde, Éme’s last full band and not home recorded album (2017).
João Marcelo, aka Éme, made his full-length debut in 2012 with Gância, shortly after his first solo EP and the mythical band Os Passos Em Volta first and only LP
