Afonso Cabral

Afonso Cabral has just released Demorar, his second solo album, featuring an all-star band and guests Manuela Azevedo and Shugo Tokumaru.

Afonso Cabral (Lisboa, 1986) has played a steady — and often discreet (just how he likes it) — role in Lisbon’s music scene over the past 15 years. He’s a founding member You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown and has also performed with Bruno Pernadas Minta & The Brook Trout or Mais Alto! as well as writing songs for other artists.

One of his standouts as a songwriter is ‘Anda Estragar-me os Planos’, cowritten with Francisca Cortesão for the 2018 Festival da Canção 2018, where it was sung by Joana Barra Vaz, and later reintepreted by many different people, including Salvador Sobral and Tim Bernardes.

After 2019’s debut Morada, he released is second solo album, Demorar in late 2024 — a record featuring two duets, one with Japanese singer-songwriter Shugo Tokumaru and another with Manuela Azevedo, the magnetic singer of the historic Portuguese band Clã.

Demorar has been a darling among music critics, making it to many best-of lists at the end of the year, placing #3 in Blitz and Radar and #11 in Antena 3.
